Long time Houston resident and legendary PGA Professional, Doug Sanders, has announced the countries that have accepted invitations to the Doug Sanders International Junior Championship.
For over 20 years, Doug Sanders has sponsored this competition that brings together the top young players from countries all over the world. Having mostly been played in Aberdeen Scotland, the Championship began in 1978 with Steven Keppler from England as the first event winner. Over the years Steve Elkington, Adam Scott, Andrew Magee, Daniel Chopra, Magnus Persson and many others have won this prestigious event.
For the first time, the 54- hole Doug Sanders International Junior Championship will be held June 25-27, 2008 at the Oaks Course at the Woodlands Conference Center.
This years exclusive 24 player field of 12 girls and 12 boys, 18 years and under is made up of players from Australia, Canada, Italy, Finland, Korea, New Zealand and the United States. The US team will be under the direction of Woodlands resident Pro. Mancil Davis, known worldwide as “The King of Aces”, for his PGA world record 51 holes in one.
On June 24th to kick off the week, a Junior/Celebrity/Amateur Tournament will be held at the Woodlands. Each 4-person team will be paired with one of the International Junior competitors or a legendary celebrity-entertainer such as Pat Boone, Engelbert Humperdinck, Johnny Nash, Dean Scott, and Johnny Lee to name a few. Immediately following the playing, a fabulous star-studded entertainment Gala/Diner will be held at the Grand Ballroom of the Woodlands Resort.
The proceeds from this event will help to support and promote junior golf and college scholarships for qualifying participants.
